As far as I can tell (with C'serve's news facility), no one answered my question about baking potatoes with an initial time (how long?) in the m'wave and then finishing off in an oven. I *know* someone here knows the method.

Probably because it isn't a huge complicated thing. Cook it half way in the microwave and finish it in the oven or cook it almost all the way through, and crisp the skin in the oven. It is dependent upon how big a potato you have, how long you have until dinner, etc.

I do it the other way around. Ill cook them on the Barbeque or oven and if Im short on time Il finish them off the microwave. Usually three minutes is sufficient depending on the size and how long they were on the Barbecue. Its hard to pin down because there are many different types of potatoe and of course the size is a factor

Hi!
I just saw this.

I use the amount of time I normally would (if I were only cooking it once) when nuking the potato, because to me, the inside doesn't really over cook.

So, for a russet potato about 4 inches long and 2 inches wide across the center (these measurements are approximate), I just nuke the potato for about 4 minutes. Obviously, if you have 2 potatoes, you would do it for about 7-8 minutes. And if your potato were bigger or smaller, adjust accordingly.

And then put it in the oven for about 15-20 minutes at 400. If you are using a lower oven temp, the nuke time is the same, but the oven time is longer. 25-30 min at 350 will work.

the oven part is just to dry out the skin so it gets crispy.

YMMV, of course, depending on the size of the potato.

I have done this many, many times. And nuking the potato so it's completely done works fine.

Hope this helps.
