Had some leftover mashed potatoes in the fridge. Decided to use them to disguise the pills and capsules that the dog has to take. It worked. I came up with the idea of making mashed potato fudge like my mom used to do years ago. She'd stir sugar into the leftover mashed potatoes, press them into a pan, put in the fridge, and then cut them into squares.

I was thinking of doing this, without the sugar, and rolling them into balls with the medication in the middle.

How long will these keep in the refrigerator? Would they keep longer if I didn't use milk when making them? Would instant mashed potatoes last longer? I'd like to make as many of them up in advance as I can.

Rather than the spuds I'd be far more concerned over the medication transforming once exposed to moisture... perhaps you need to discuss your fercocktah idea with the vet.

I put my dog's medication in small balls of canned cat food. Dogs love canned cat food. I put each pill into a ball large enough to cover the pill. He gobbles it up, the vet said it was okay. It's the easiest way of getting the pills into him. He is currently taking three pills a day, and its too much of a battle to do it any other way, 'cause his teeth are very sharp!

Pilling a dog? Try hiding the pill in a slice of a hot dog or wrapping it in a bit of liverwurst. Works great.

I've heard that disguising it in peanut butter works well. I've never tried it though.

Probably would as long as your dog likes peanut butter.

I've been putting pills in liver sausage for 25 years. Never had 1 hidden pill rejected by any of my dogs.

When my "baby" needed antibiotics, I pushed the capsules into mushroom stems and had her jump for them. Of course, this is the same dog that loves carrots, peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, grapes and bananas!

How long are we talking?? Days, weeks??
My old dog, Sam, took his pills wrapped in liverwurst.
