I saw this gadget on TV recently where you insert very thin slices of potatoes
vertically, stick them in a microwave, and you have fat free chips. Does
anyone know of a recipie (what to put it on, how long to microwave it) so that
I don't have to buy that thing?

You don't have to buy that gadget. I made them before at home in the
microwave. I don't have the recipe, but I think you can get it from the
site http://www.fatfree.com (not sure) but here is what you do:
spray a dish with Pam(veg spray) and place the sliced potatoes on the
dish, sprinkle a little cajun powder(optional) and microwave for 1-2 min
you will have to keep and eye out because my microwave is old and not
very powerful. You may have to flip the chips over. After cooking, let
them sit for a few minutes and chow. They are really delicious. I think
that they are better than the one's you buy at the store. Experiment and
have fun. Let me know how you like them.
Just one tip: I used a microwave tray, that I bought for cooking bacon,
and I used it for the chips. I did not have to flip the chips over. ;)

It seems like it's been awhile since I've seen the infamous
potato-chip maker mentioned here, so here I am, bringing up
the subject now.
Some friends and I have been trying to figure out the best
topping for our potatoes. Seasoning salt and barbecue seasoning
are good but not outstanding. I've tried soul food & mesquite
seasonings (which are ok). So far, the best idea seems to have
been Shake 'n Bake's Perfect Potatoes seasoning mixes...both
Sour Cream & Chive and Herb & Garlic are pretty tasty.
Anyone have any ideas for making a BBQ potato chip similar to
what you get in the store?

I saw this chip maker at Walmart. It was selling for about $10.00.
You could make your own potato chips in the microwave with it. I
was wondering if anyone had used this product and if the potato chips
were any good. The name of the product slips my mind and I just saw
it today. I was considering purchasing one and was wondering how
good it was before I purchased one.

I picked one up because it was on sale for even less than the "bargain"
$10 price. I works fairly well. It is a somewhat slow, if effective,
process. Of course, nothing is as easy as the instructions sound. The
potato chips are more than half way decent. The ripple cutter on the
other hand really butchers the poor potatoes. I tried to duplicate the
waffled potatoes you see at Chick-fill-a. Not a very good imitation.
Still, if you want low fat, this is a time-consuming, but effective, way

A microwave bacon tray is just as effective, and it has a dual
purpose. It makes bacon super crispy, and will do the same for chips.
